“Aikainen lintu madon nappaa.” Translation: “The early bird catches the worm.” Meaning: You have to be proactive if you want something.
“Eihän korppi korpilta silmää puhkaise.” Translation: “After all, a raven doesn’t pierce the eye of a raven.” Meaning: Colleagues/partners look after one another.
“Ei yksi pääsky kesää tee.”
Translation: “One swallow doesn’t make the summer.” Meaning: You can’t really base any conclusions on one occurrence.
Thanks for this excellent list. I believe naakka is a jackdaw (Corvus monedula), which is a different species from a rook (Corvus frugilegus), which luontoportti calls mustavaris.
