The conversation prompts in this article are all related to children, childhood and parenting. I’ve made multiple of these articles with keskustelukysymyksiä, which you can find a list of here. This article is a little bit different because I have attempted to organize the questions by level, and it contains questions all the way to level C2.

You can find some vocabulary related to childhood here. The focus of this article is not so much on your own childhood, but rather on childhood in general as well as parenthood and raising children.

1. Level A1-A2 conversation questions

A1 and A2 are the very beginnings of your journey of learning Finnish. A student of level A1 to A2 could be able to answer the following questions (not all of them are equally easy, but they all fall within the “beginner” level. At level A1, it’s possible that you are only able to answer the question shortly but unable to elaborate any further. At level A2 you are able to explain things in a little bit more detail as well as explain why you feel the way you do.

2. Level A2-B1 conversation questions

The following questions are suitable for level A2 and B1. Both levels are likely able to answer these questions, but at B1, a more nuanced and elaborate answer is expected: compare Finland to your home country, talk about people in general rather than just your own experiences, and give more examples and explanations.

3. Level B1-B2

These questions are doable for level B1 and B2 level students. The level of abstraction, generalization and detail differ between B1 and B2. At level B2 you should be able to discuss and compare things with much more ease.

4. Level B2-C2

While some of the questions below might also be doable at a lower level, these are the type of questions one might use to assess advanced students. The difference is once again in how comprehensively you’re able to discuss these issues and bring up different viewpoints: you should be able to compare, contrast, evaluate, critique, analyze and debate complex issues with increasing ease.
