Asuntoilmoitus – Housing Advertisements – Finnish Vocabulary

This page contains vocabulary that you may find in housing advertisements, rental ads, real estate or property ads (let me just mention all those terms to help Google find you). In Finnish, we call such a house advertisement an asuntoilmoitus. They of course contain a lot of information and can be hard to understand as a non-native speaker.

Rooms
The following is a list of the abbreviations that are commonly used in housing advertisements. Please note that even Finns would have to look up what some of these abbreviations mean. The names of the rooms may also not immediately open up to you when you read them. I suggest doing a Google image search to get some pictures.

It should be noted that on Finnish housing advertisements 2h or 2 rooms usually means 1 living room + 1 bedroom, and not 2 bedrooms. The same goes for 3h (1 living room + 2 bedrooms), 4h, and so on.
